Point-Source Loudspeakers

Great Plains Audio is proud to offer the Model 604-8H-II Coaxial Loudspeaker System. Designed for use in home theatres, recording studios, and other environments where accurate, natural sounding reproduction is paramount, the GPA Model 604-8H-II is a two-way loudspeaker that is provides unsurpassed reproduction of the audio spectrum over a wide frequency range with extremely high efficiency. The Model 604-8H-II exhibits absolutely accurate phasing and stereo imaging across the entire spectrum of human hearing.

Superior “Point-Source” Reproduction -

Actually two speakers built on the same frame, the
Great Plains Audio Model 604-8H-II Coaxial Loudspeaker System uses an extremely efficient low-frequency loudspeaker and a high-frequency compression driver/horn assembly that are mounted together coaxially. This method of construction technique is what makes the Model 604-8H-II so unique and sound so good. Since both of the low and high frequency signals emanate from the same horizontal AND vertical planes, the Model 604-8H-II is capable of producing unsurpassed stereo imaging and sonic accuracy.

Stunning Low-Frequency Performance -

Today's digital recordings have enormous low-frequency content. If a speaker system isn't able to "keep up" with the demands of digital audio, it will soon be discarded for something that can. However, it's not as easy as it may seem - most "digital ready" loudspeaker manufacturers resort to large, heavy voice coils, poorly designed suspensions, and heavy cones in order to try to perform well in the digital audio world. The result is, however, typically disappointing, and the amounts of audio power necessary to operate these inefficient designs is incredible. Not only that, but most of them have over-hung voice coils - ones that are not totally immersed in the magnetic field of the speaker, resulting in slower cone movement, lack of control, and inarticulate reproduction.

     The
Great Plains Audio Model 604-8H-II Coaxial Loudspeaker System doesn’t have any of these problems. Instead, we use a lightweight cone, a high-compliance suspension, and our low-frequency voice coil  stays in the magnetic gap at all times. These features, when combined with our massive FerriteV magnet, allow our Model 604-8H-II to exhibit clean, accurate, incredibly fast response to the musical transients in the program material with less distortion than other units of similar design.

Natural High-Frequency Reproduction -

    The
Great Plains Audio Model 604-8H-II Coaxial Loudspeaker System uses a small-format high frequency compression driver that incorporates several time-tested manufacturing methods and materials for superior audio reproduction. The high-frequency section of every Model 604-8H-II combines an all-metal aluminum dome, a tangential compliance, and a voice coil of 1 3/4-inch edgewound aluminum ribbon into a field-replaceable assembly. Because it is extremely light, this assembly enables the Model 604-8H-II to handle the transients in modern, digital audio with ease. Extremely efficient, the Model 604-8H-II is capable of tremendous acoustic output with minimal amounts of audio power.

Delivering the sound waves created by the diaphragm into the listening environment with proper phase alignment is also critical, and is an task that most loudspeakers fail to do. But not the
GPA Model 604-8H-II! Utilizing a unique radial phasing system, the Model 604-8H-II achieves maximum high frequency reproduction while maintaining proper phasing and smooth overall response to beyond 20 kHz.

    When you listen to the
Model 604-8H-II,the realism and stereo imaging are, quite literally, stunning. This is due, in part, to the small, constant-directivity horn mounted in the center of the Model 604-8H-II. Unlike many horn designs, whose coverage patterns tend to collapse as the frequencies they are reproducing rises, our horn maintains it's distribution pattern throughout the loudspeaker’s frequency range. The result is amazing realism in reproduction.

Outstanding Features Of The Model 604-8H-II -

    * A lightweight, all-metal aluminum dome and tangential compliance, providing accurate, clear high frequency reproduction throughout the upper limits of human hearing.
    * An exclusive radial phasing system that accurately transfers all of the sound waves coming off of the dome into the throat of the horn.
    * Our proprietary constant-directivity horn, which provides well-behaved distribution of the high frequency sounds without beaming or lobing.
    * A high-compliance, lightweight woofer cone that has excellent low-frequency reproduction.
    * A large FerriteV magnetic assembly, which provides power to both the high and low frequency sections of the speaker for superior efficiency.
    * An incredible, life-like, almost three-dimensional stereo image with exceptional latitude in seating position.
    * Peak-free, uniform reproduction throughout the range of human hearing.
    * The perfect loudspeaker system of choice where accurate, realistic, unaltered sound reproduction is required.

Equally comfortable in six or nine cubic foot enclosures, the Great Plains Audio Model 604-8H-II Coaxial Loudspeaker System may be ordered with a passive dividing network.
